Doing our bit

We're not claiming to be perfect or revolutionary, but we do take the environment seriously and try and be as eco friendly as possible. Whilst it makes us feel good, it does sadden us to think that the majority of things we do could so easily be adopted by other business, in fact there is no excuse not to do most of them.

Recycled Paper
Wherever possible we use recycled paper and stationary. Our A4 paper, envelopes, note pads, post it notes and even business cards all use 100% recycled paper.

Recycled packaging
We try and reuse every piece of packaging we can. The lids of a box of A4 paper makes an ideal in-tray. Any jiffy bags or boxes get re used, and we even collect cardboard boxes from a number of local businesses so we can use them for sending out our products. You will note that our point if sale boxes are made from reused wine crates.

Printers
We have 3 printers. One is used for colour printing and design, and for this we use a bulk ink system, cutting down on waste cartridges. The general printer uses recycled cartridges and set as default to print on both sides. The laser printer uses recycled cartridges. All 3 printers are physically switched off when not in use, not just left on standby.

Phone System
OK so we're cheating a little here as we love kitsch, but rather than splashing out on a new state of the art phone system our office 'rings' with the sound of retro reconditioned telephones every time the phone rings. Totally cool, and has spared some old phones heading to land fill.

Electricity
Being based in Jersey we have no opportunities to change suppliers (Jersey Electricity have a monopoly). They claim to be environmentally friendly and as long as your happy that generating electricity from nuclear power stations and an old generating plant which we're told has failed every emissions test in Europe, then yup it's green! We are trying to install a wind turbine, but planning permission is needed and other bits of red tape, but we're on the case.

Our surf wax
We started making our eco friendly surf wax back in late 2005 and it was packaged in a re-seal poly bag which was labeled with a large paper sticker. As demand grew for our wax we looked it see if we could find a more environmentally packaging. We could not source any recycled plastic re-seal bags or any decent labels made from recycled paper. The search for new packaging took just over a year, and the result can be seen in our second generation wax with the new plant based pla biodegradable tub and recycled plastic lid. The wait and hard work was well worth it!
